This Wildlife destination is located in the Periyar Valley in the Western Ghats. It is a forest reserve and that the center if it is an artificial lake created by building a dam in1895. In the year 1950, it was declared a sanctuary and became a part of Project Tiger. A tropical evergreen forest which is a host to 62 species of mammals, 320 species of birds and 45 species of reptiles makes it a hot spot for safaris. Boat cruise through the Periyar lake can give one spotting of wildlife even though felines sightings are very rare.
